Leverage Community to Create Even More Thought Leadership Impact

As a child, none of us said, “I want to grow up to be an organizational thought leader!”

Few (if any) of us went to school for this calling.

Yet here we are – building OrgTL from the ground up. We’re inventing best practices, finding meaningful metrics, and showing the value of our work every day.

The great news is: We don’t have to do it alone!

There’s a real need for community among OrgTL practitioners.

On LinkedIn, the OrgTL Group has become one of the largest gatherings of professionals who create, curate, and deploy thought leadership on behalf of their organizations.

We cover topics including best practices, definitions, the creation of content and offerings (i.e., modalities), the use of strategy and resources to build thought leadership functions, and the measurement of thought leadership success and impact.

In 2022 we hosted monthly OrgTL Roundtables. We met with new TL Practitioners, and those who have been in their roles for some time, seeking other like-minded folks to share ideas. Many of our OrgTL leaders built relationships outside of the Roundtable, to collaborate about ideas, podcasts, and future content.

We discussed emerging trends for using thought leadership as a marketing tool, as well as installing it as a core competency and value for their organization. There’s so much to learn!

In 2023, we’re going to continue elevating that community, and we’d like you to be a part of it.

In 2022, I’ve seen several heads of TL get promotions; they’re still a head of TL but with a higher-level title (Director or VP). I’ve also talked with heads of TL who were hit by tech layoffs.

Networks of fellow professionals help us grow, become more aware of trends, and rebound when needed.

Communities matter. They help us grow, refine our ideas, and inspire us to think outside the box. They provide support and understanding, and they celebrate your achievements. Communities that are active and engaged can elevate your thinking, actually making you a better thought leader.

Do you practice thought leadership on behalf of your organization? If so, we’d love to have you join the OrgTL Roundtable. Please reach out to me for information on when and where we meet!

And if you’d like to do a “get to know each other” or catch-up call with me, here’s a link to my calendar.

I’d love to talk shop about thought leadership with you.

Warmly,

Bill Sherman
