Broaden Your Horizon

Want to practice better thought leadership?
Go exploring — 🏔️
Not just inside your field but far beyond it.

The best thought leaders are always learning, 📖
expanding their minds.
It requires us to be humble, and act with real curiosity.
To say, “I know something about this –
but I could know more!”

And that’s where thought leadership comes in.

Plutarch said, “The mind is not a vessel 🥣 that needs filling,
but wood 🪵 that needs igniting.”
Our minds only need a spark 🔥
In order to burn bright with new ideas.

Expertise is a valuable commodity.
So is an open mind!

So how do you broaden your horizon beyond your field?
Listen in 👂 on professionals in another field talking to each other.

Here are some journeys 🚵‍♂️ that I’ve taken outside of my field:

💥 Attend webinars not in my area of expertise
💥 Listen to podcasts — experts talking to each other
💥 Read articles published by professionals in other fields
💥 Attend conferences hosted by other professions and sit in on sessions

And when I’m in that space, I’m learning.
And asking myself – how this might inform the work I do.

If you want to practice thought leadership –
Building a heterogenous network
and visiting new fields you’re not comfortable with
Will broaden your mind.

It equips you with the ability to
weld ideas from other fields with yours
and transport 🚚 ideas straight from other fields into yours.
